WINTER SPORTS SIGN-UPS Wednesday, November 2nd

Athletes cannot try-out, practice, and/or participate in any BHS sport without a current physical.  Physical exams provided by a physician are valid for two years based on the actual date of the physical exam.  Physicals provided with sports paperwork and/or that are on file in the Athletic Department must cover the entire timeframe of the current season in which sport participation occurs. Safe Sports Network is offering FREE sports physicals on November 16 @ NH Orthopaedic (Bedford location) from 5:30-7:00pm. Sign up using this link: https://goo.gl/rRrDjF

BHS Winter Athletes (except Indoor Track) must take a mandatory C3logix test, which is a required concussion balance test - Click this link to sign up: https://goo.gl/d3XmKw

Important Note: Most athletes that participated last Spring and who are participating in sports this Fall have already taken their balance test and do not need to sign up. However, all impact sport athletes this Winter season must have completed both their baseline test, which is done on the computer here at BHS and the balance test (link above) before tryouts. Baseline testing is done typically for freshman and juniors. If you have not participated in sports this Fall or last Spring you must also take the balance test.

GREAT EFFORT
Freshman FOOTBALL vs. Salem
The Freshman Bulldog’s faced off against a solid Salem Freshman team. The Bulldogs started out strong and answered Salem’s’ initial TD with a TD Pass to Receiver Tim Green from QB Nathaniel Frederick. The Bedford offense then successfully completed a 2-point conversation with a strong run by Jack Grogan to put the Bulldogs in the lead at half time. Unfortunately, numerous injuries to the Bulldog offensive and defensive starters wiped out the Bulldogs ability to successful execute their offense against a strong and fast Salem defense.  While not the outcome the Freshman Bulldogs were looking and fighting for, it was an opportunity to get all the Freshman players into the game for a large portion of the game.

Freshman FOOTBALL vs. Concord
The Freshman Bulldog’s faced off against the Concord Freshman away in Concord.  Still with numerous injuries and key starters not able to play, the Bulldog offense executed well with a very strong ground game by running backs Tim Greene and Joey Leary.  While Bedford had three TD’s wiped out due to penalties, Bedford was able to effectively move the ball down the field with numerous passes from QB Nathaniel Frederick to receivers Joey Leary and Jack Jones, including several extra point pass competitions.  However, all of Bedford’s TD’s were from running back Tim Greene behind a solid Bulldog line which included Center Charlie Kneisell-Williams, lineman Chris Gaitley, Zack Barnard, Tory Helton, Peter Falvey, Colby Martel,  Drew Allard, and Drake Tomkinson.  The Bulldog special teams led by Ryan Bobotas did an outstanding job on kick off’s recovering 5 pooch kick off’s to help position Bedford for success.  The Bulldog defense did well stopping a strong and aggressive Concord offense and came up with some big stops.  Strong defensive play was delivered by Tory Helton, Ethan Van Heerdan, Trevor Soden, Austin Dearborn, Aidan Wolfinger, Scot Landies, Nick Flores, Alex Bleakley, and Ben Sylvain, Chris Gaitley and Ethan Fraitzl.

Thursday, October 20, 2016

Dear Parents of our Student/Athletes,

I am writing to provide clarity around the decision regarding athlete attendance, a procedure that has been in place since the school has opened.  The attendance procedure stipulates that a student/athlete must be in school in order to participate in athletic practices or games after school.  There are allowances for doctor, dentist, and other important family matters provided the athletic department is notified.

Today, I received information that there was some confusion over the enforcement of that procedure due to the graffitti on the bathroom wall.  Some teams were told because of “extenuating” circumstances and if “excused absent,” that the absent student would be allowed to participate.  Because some teams were told this, and because we certainly do not want to penalize the students who were told they could be out of school but could play, we are permitting participation today.

However, going forward please understand that if the police department, the superintendent, and school administration (all who have your child’s safety as our top priority) feel it is safe to have a regular school day, the attendance procedure requiring student/athletes to be here to participate will be enforced.  Also keep in mind, that we fully respect parent, student uneasiness about these situations and your decision to keep your child home. However, we would expect that concern not be applied exclusively between the hours of 7:55 am and 2:35 pm and should extend to any co-curricular activities that occur before or after school hours.

I realize these are challenging times and these type of situations can create a great deal of anxiety.  I also realize, despite best efforts and regardless of the experience decision makers have regarding the handling of these issues, it is impossible to be 100% sure of anything in this at times unsettling world.

Sincerely,
Bill Hagen

Freshman FOOTBALL vs. Manchester Memorial
The Freshman Bulldog’s faced off against the Memorial Crusader Freshman team at home. Even with numerous injuries and key starters not able to play, the Bulldog offense executed much better this week with a strong ground game by running backs Tim Greene and Mikey Akstin. Bulldog receivers also had a solid game with nice receptions by Joey Leary, Jack Jones, and Tim Greene. Bedford’s touchdowns came from two TD passes by QB Nathaniel Frederick to Joey Leary and Tim Green and one rushing TD from QB Nathaniel Frederick. The Bulldog offense was successful behind Center Charlie Kneisell-Williams, lineman Chris Gately, Zack Barnard, Tory Helton, Peter Falvey ,and Colby Martel. Extra point kicks were successfully made by Ryan Bobotas and snapper Ethan Fraitzl. The Bulldog defense also did well stopping a fast and aggressive Memorial offense and came up with some big stops. Strong defensive play was delivered by Tory Helton, Ethan Van Heerdan, Trevor Soden, Ryan Bobotas, Scot Landies, and Nick Flores. The Bulldog Special Teams did a great job recovering the ball on pooch kicks and pinning the Crusaders deep on numerous occasions. The PAT defense also did well with Colby Martel blocking a PAT.
